Porcelain Veneers are not all done the same.  Look at the photos attached.  The upper left corner is a patient that had veneers done by a dentist that claimed to do cosmetic dentistry.  The patient was horrified when he looked in the mirror upon completion because he had very large, bulky, white porcelain on his teeth with a orange peel like texture.  They are technically veneers that were done, but done very poorly by both the dentist and a ceramist with little technical skill.  So are porcelain veneers worth it? In the case of this patient's first set of veneers, no.  However the patient had them replaced by Dr Todd Snyder to create a beautiful natural smile that they had wanted initially.  We see this often where someone is not happy with the craftsmanship of the work and they look for someone with better skills to change it.
Dentistry is an art/craft created by a dentist's hands, visualization, communication, integrity and training.  It is then the implementation of an ordinary dental lab and a ceramist or an Extraordinary Dental Lab and one of very few in the world have Master Ceramists that are trained to create the incredible thin art that will become Porcelain Veneers.  Too often it is assumed that all dentists are the same and that a crown or veneer is some simple commodity on a shelf that you can shop based on price alone.  This could not be further from the truth.  If a dentist prepares a tooth incorrectly or removes too much tooth structure you can never get that back you can only try and do something different.  The appearance of a Porcelain Veneer or Crown can be very easy to see in a person's smile when done poorly. However an incredible smile can be created with no one being able to notice when proper technique and a Master Ceramist have been utilized.  To create a beautiful piece of art which fits into an existing smile is nothing short of amazing, however to create numerous veneers to change one's entire appearance is often referred to as a Smile Make Over and can be very challenging to perform.  A lot of time and effort goes into planning and fabricating Crowns and Porcelain Veneers for altering the front teeth if you want it done right.  There are no quick fixes.  Depending on the location of the dental office, the skill of the dentist and dental lab creating the restorations the price can vary a lot.  In Orange County, California Porcelain Veneer fees have been seen to vary widely from $1000/tooth to $4500/tooth.  Learn more about the customized process and see examples of the Cosmetic Dentist Dr Todd Snyder's Porcelain Veneer Cases in Orange County.
